  • Street searches now recover automatically from one transient road-data failure, and malformed successful responses fall through to the configured mirror instead of becoming an error.

Almanac revisions and safer public lookups

  • Revised all five Almanac essays with clearer titles, more precise distinctions between calculated geometry, observation, documentation, and interpretation, updated captions and sources, and the same original article URLs.
  • Place searches, street lookups, nearby scans, and MCP calls now share repeated requests, enforce tighter limits, and return explicit retry guidance, reducing pressure on the public OpenStreetMap services the site depends on.
  • The interactive evidence ladder now wraps its explanatory text so it stays inside the figure on narrow screens, and the Almanac index cards no longer repeat the author's name beside every article.
  • Retired the experimental ChatGPT App widgets. The public read-only MCP endpoint remains available with plain-text responses, structured JSON data, and Streethenge links.

The moon is back

  • Moonrise and moonset are back on the front page. Search a street, then switch between the sun and the moon: the date, the time, the direction to look, and the calendar entry all follow that choice.
  • A shared link now remembers whether it was about the sun or the moon, so it reopens as the alignment that was sent.
  • The streets that never line up, the accuracy note, and the no-alignment message now name the body you asked about instead of always saying the sun. The eye-safety warning stays with the sun, where the hazard is.
  • A page that does not exist now answers with a short line about streets and light, drawn at random and written in every language the site speaks, rather than a bare server message.
  • Removed earlier entries that described work readers cannot actually use, including one that announced a catalog expansion before it was published.

Australia and Lithuania on the map

  • Australia now holds 41 cities in the catalog instead of one: Melbourne's central streets and forty more urban areas, 628 street corridors between them.
  • Vilnius, Kaunas, and Klaipeda each gained five more corridors.
  • Everything added here is a geometry proposal read from mapped road geometry, and every corridor says so on the page. Whether the view is open on the day is still not assessed.
  • A city page opens on the street it is named after, while the corridor list stays ordered by whichever alignment comes soonest.

A new design for the whole site

  • Rebuilt the site around a single question: type a street, get the day the sun stands at the end of it. The peak date and time lead, the map opens only once there is a location, and the technical detail sits one click away instead of first.
  • A street whose direction never meets the sun now says so plainly instead of presenting a confident date for a geometry that does not work.
  • Searching a looping or bent street by name now answers with the arm that actually faces the sunrise or sunset, rather than whichever arm happened to be nearest.
  • Every city page and search result now draws the sun's bearing across the coming year against that street, with today marked and the same alignment dates the page quotes marked on the curve.
  • Added persistent navigation across the site, a sunrise and sunset switch on city pages, and the map legend above the map instead of below it.
  • Changing the language now changes the whole page rather than only the menu.
  • The answer now describes in plain words how closely the street lines up. The score out of 100 is still there among the other measurements a click away, along with the reminder that what you see on the day depends on weather, buildings, and terrain.
  • City pages show their street corridors on the page's own map: choosing one moves the map to it instead of sending you off to the finder, and the corridors are ordered by which alignment comes soonest.
  • Every corridor on a city page carries its own evidence tier, so a geometry proposal listed beside a documented street is never mistaken for one.
  • Opening a shared link now also offers the neighbouring streets, so an alignment someone sent you can be corrected to the street you actually meant.
  • Nearby-street lookups reuse cached map data far more effectively and offer a retry when the map service is busy, so the site leans less on a free shared service.
  • Nearby area scans are no longer part of the main page and remain available on the lite route.

Alignment confidence

  • Pinned Manhattanhenge to the American Museum of Natural History's published 2026 full-Sun and half-Sun dates, fixed truncated geometric windows, and made local civil time the primary display.
  • Renamed the angular score to geometric match, exposed the street-axis difference, and stated that on-site visibility is not assessed.
  • Made nearby scans replace stale results and move focus to the refreshed list, while keeping parameterized app URLs out of the search index and isolating Almanac SVG styles from extracted article text.

  • Resolved every remaining preparation, core-identity, and alternate-point unit. The public catalog now covers 112 cities and 137 spots; all other researched units are decisively closed or retained as documented non-street context.

  • Redesigned the site in the Blue Hour palette, with automatic dark mode and a manual theme toggle.
  • Opened the worldwide city henge catalog: 29 cities on six continents, grouped by continent, with observation spots, sources, and clearly marked geometry proposals.
  • City henge pages gained the map, calendar buttons for every alignment window, a share link, and site navigation.
  • Picking or searching a street now calculates immediately, moves the pin onto the street, and recenters the map.
  • Bent and looped streets are offered as separate straight arms in the street picker, and curved sight lines are honestly labeled approximate.
  • Address searches with a house number now find the right street, streets that never align are greyed out, and the nearby-street lookup got faster and more reliable.
